Why Messianics Do What They Do

Torah = Law; Chai = Life. The Law of Life

Torah is instruction from the Father to His Children

Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding

The word “Torah”, also called “law”, is a feminine noun in Hebrew.

“She” is called the Tree of life.

Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

“The word” literally means "five scrolls" in Hebrew. The Torah is the five scrolls, or books, written on lambskins and the first five books of the Bible. Yeshua is the lamb.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word [Torah], and the Word[Torah] was with God, and the Word [Torah] was God.

Yeshua is the Torah [law] made flesh.

Yeshua gave the Torah to the mixed multitude of Hebrews and

Gentiles at Mount Sinai.

Isaiah 33:22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Yeshua said:

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
“Fulfill” is the opposite of destroy. It means to “make full of meaning” or to make something understandable.

Yeshua said:

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. He was talking about the entire 613 commandments
He gave to mixed multitude that became known as the “Children of Israel”.

Torah is not to be confused with the “oral law”. Yeshua taught us to keep HIS law
and discard the “oral law”. So did Paul, Peter, James, John, etc.

It is important to know all the commandments of Torah in order to fulfill our personal obligation to it.
Knowing the Torah is the only way to discriminate between God’s Laws that He wants us to keep
and man’s laws that He wants us to ignore, for it is the latter that are to be abolished.
